Trioctylamine CAS 1116-76-3
Three hydrogen atoms in trioctylamine ammonia molecule are substituted by three n-octyl groups to form a compound with the molecular formula (c8H17) □ n. Triacylamine is colorless liquid; Boiling point 365℃; Insoluble in water, soluble in ethanol, ether, etc. Trioctylamine is prepared by the reaction of n-octanol and ammonia at 400℃ using alumina as catalyst: □ Trioctylamine and other tertiary amines of C8 ~ C10 are used for the extraction and separation of various metals in metallurgical industry (see solvent extraction), such as the separation of cobalt, nickel, actinides and lanthanides.
